MG's upcoming electric SUV spotted testing on Indian roads ahead of its expected launch in 2026.

New Delhi: MG Motor is preparing to strengthen its electric vehicle portfolio in India with a new premium electric SUV that has recently been spotted undergoing road tests. The latest sightings have generated excitement among automobile enthusiasts, as the upcoming model is expected to compete directly with premium electric SUVs such as the Mahindra XEV 9S once it reaches the market.

Although MG has not officially revealed the vehicle’s complete specifications or launch date, the camouflaged test model suggests that development is progressing steadily. Industry experts believe the company is focusing on combining a modern design, longer driving range, advanced technology, and premium comfort to attract buyers looking for a feature-rich electric SUV.

The test vehicle appears to feature a sleek and futuristic exterior with a closed front grille, sharp LED daytime running lights, aerodynamic alloy wheels, flush door handles, and connected LED tail lamps. Despite the heavy camouflage covering most of the bodywork, its proportions indicate that it will be positioned in the premium mid-size electric SUV segment.

Inside the cabin, the upcoming SUV is expected to offer a significant technology upgrade compared to MG’s existing lineup. Reports suggest buyers could see a large floating infotainment touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ventilated seats, wireless charging, ambient lighting, premium upholstery, and a panoramic sunroof. Over-the-air software updates and connected car technology are also expected to be part of the package.

Performance is likely to be one of the vehicle’s strongest selling points. While MG has not confirmed technical specifications, industry estimates indicate the SUV could be equipped with a large-capacity lithium-ion battery capable of delivering a driving range of more than 500 kilometers on a single charge under standard testing conditions. Fast charging support is also expected, allowing owners to recharge the battery significantly quicker than conventional AC charging.

The upcoming model is also expected to prioritize safety. Premium variants could include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera, tire pressure monitoring, and several advanced driver assistance systems designed to improve both convenience and passenger protection.

The development of this SUV comes at a time when MG is accelerating its expansion in India’s growing new-energy vehicle market. The company recently introduced its new ADAPT (Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology) platform, a flexible architecture capable of supporting electric vehicles, hybrid models, plug-in hybrids, and range-extended electric vehicles. The platform is expected to play a key role in several future launches planned for the Indian market.

Industry analysts believe the new electric SUV will become one of MG’s most important launches in recent years. India’s premium EV segment has become increasingly competitive, with manufacturers introducing vehicles that offer higher driving ranges, smarter technology, and faster charging capabilities. By entering this segment with a fresh product, MG aims to strengthen its position against rivals from Mahindra, Tata Motors, Hyundai, and other global manufacturers.

While pricing has not yet been officially announced, market expectations suggest the SUV will be positioned in the premium electric SUV category. The final price will likely depend on the battery configuration, drivetrain options, and feature variants offered at launch.

The official unveiling timeline also remains under wraps. However, the appearance of the vehicle during public road testing indicates that development has entered an advanced stage. Industry observers expect MG to share additional details over the coming months before announcing bookings and customer deliveries.

Demand for premium electric SUVs continues to rise across India as improved charging infrastructure, longer battery ranges, and increasing consumer awareness encourage more buyers to consider electric mobility. Manufacturers are responding by introducing products with better technology, enhanced comfort, and stronger safety credentials.

If launched with the expected specifications, MG’s new electric SUV could become a serious competitor in the premium EV segment. Its combination of modern styling, advanced connectivity features, anticipated long driving range, and comprehensive safety equipment is expected to appeal to families and professionals seeking a practical yet premium electric vehicle.

For now, buyers will have to wait for MG’s official announcement regarding the vehicle’s name, complete specifications, pricing, and launch schedule. Until then, the latest testing activity provides the clearest indication yet that another major electric SUV is preparing to enter India’s rapidly evolving automotive market.
